Education Update - Elena Van Lenten

Wednesday, May 15, 2019

The last two years winners of the Hollywood Hills Civic Association Scholarship from Chaminade-Madonna are sisters Alexis and Elena Van Lenten.

Alexis graduated in 2017 and just completed her sophomore year at Florida State University. After a year and a half of studying Interdisciplinary Medical Science, she decided to change course and pursue a degree in business with a minor in psychology. Alexis’ plan is to become a marketing professional or human resource specialist upon graduation. She has taken classes year round since she started FSU and volunteers at Broward General in the summer months. She also does community service through her sorority Delta Zeta while in Tallahassee.

Her younger sister Elena, our scholarship winner last year for 2018 just completed her freshman year at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Elena was honored to have made the dean’s list her first semester and is on track to do the same for the spring semester. She is currently enrolled in the College of Design and Construction Management at UF where she is studying architecture and design. She loves Gator football and is very active with her sorority Delta Phi Epsilon.

Both young women are life-long residents of Hollywood Hills and attended Nativity School prior to Chaminade-Madonna. They were and continue to be honored by the recognition of their community service through the HHCA Scholarship. Their family would again like to thank the Association as the scholarship monies were a huge help to both of them their first year of college.

"Thank You Letter" from Nicholas Krivocheiko

To whom it may concern,

I'm Nicholas Krivocheiko, one of this year's HHCA-Mel Pollak College Scholarship Award winners. So far my time at the University of Florida has been a blast! I had no expectations coming in, so when I immediately made many incredible friends on my first day, attended various fun events across campus, played at the top-of-the-line sports facilities, and experienced my first ever NCAA Football game, I realized that this is going to be the greatest experience of my life! I love everything about the campus, it's beautiful, I am staying on top of my classes which allows me to pursue my interests on my free time, and my fellow students are great! I want to thank HHCA so much for offering me this generous scholarship, I have been able to cover more than the cost of my books this semester with the funds! I wish HHCA all the best, I hope that the organization and community are going strong, and I can't wait to come back to Hollywood in the winter. I'll never forget where I came from!

Kind regards,

Nicholas Krivocheiko
